Averting an HIV Epidemic Fueled by Injection Drug Use -- Tanzania Model Presented in Vienna

Pangaea co-sponsored a satellite session on July 23rd in Vienna entitled, “Gender inequities and HIV among women who inject drugs.”  Pangaea CEO Ben Plumley moderated the session that included a presentation by Megan Dunbar, Pangaea’s VP of Research and Programs, Yovin Ivo Laurent of the Tanzanian Drug Control Commission, and Dr. Doug Bruce, Pangaea's Lead Harm Reduction Consultant.  Video of Ivo Laurent's presentation and of a Tanzanian woman's story are available on Pangaea's YouTube channel.

Panaea Launches Blog and New Website in Advance of Vienna Conference

Pangaea launches its new website on July 14. Completely redesigned, its aim is to share as widely as possible our lessons learned, best practices and priorities in advancing the health and well-being of people most affected by AIDS, most particularly girls and women, men who have sex with men, and injection drug users. The focus of our blog will be on new thinking, best practices and advocacy relating to the development, implementation, and evaluation of cost-effective, comprehensive HIV services for vulnerable, marginalized populations. 

Pangaea Adds Three Leaders in Global Health to Board of Directors

Pangaea is very pleased to have recently added three leaders in HIV/AIDS and global health is to our Board of Directors. The three new directors are:

  • Arnab (Arnie) Ghatak, partner in the New Jersey Office of McKinsey & Company and Americas leader of McKinsey’s Global Public Health practice;
  • Jill Sheffield, founder and president of Women Deliver, and also the founder of Family Care International (FCI); and
  • Dr. Paul Volberding, Chief of Medical Service, San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Pangaea Sets Its Sights on Vienna

Pangaea will be actively engaged at the upcoming XVIII International AIDS Conference in Vienna, Austria from July 18 to 23. We are still compiling a full list of our activities which will be updated regularly. Our participation kicks off with sponsorship and participation in the MSM PreConference on Saturday July 17, and continues through the week with a number of presentations, satellite meetings and events.

Call for Consultants: Global HIV/AIDS Project Work

Pangaea Global AIDS Foundation is actively seeking consultants experienced in all phases of HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment to assist with global projects. Pangaea is presently working actively in China, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, and Cambodia, and has a number of new projects in the planning stage in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.

Pangaea Applauds Women Deliver’s Commitment to Reducing Maternal Mortality and Achieving Universal Access to Reproductive Health

On June 7th 2010, political, civil society and business leaders will convene in Washington DC for the Women Deliver 2010 Conference to focus the world's attention on the unacceptable and preventable 350,000 to 500,000 deaths of women and girls from pregnancy-related causes each year.
